April 27, 2020 - The Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Corporations, Securities & Commercial Licensing Bureau (CSCL) issued a Cease and Desist Order against Jackson City Cab/Starlite Cab Co. in Jackson – effective April 24, 2020 – ordering it to stop operating as a taxicab carrier without being registered with LARA, as required under Michigan’s Limousine, Taxicab, and Transportation Network Company Act.
To date, the company has not submitted a completed registration application and continued to advertise and provide its taxicab carrier services while unregistered, despite CSCL’s repeated requests for the company to register and complete its application for registration as a taxicab carrier under the Act.
When the Limousine, Taxicab, and Transportation Network Company Act (2016 PA 345) became effective March 21, 2017, Michigan joined more than three dozen states that have similar laws in place. Information regarding how to obtain a taxicab carrier, limousine carrier, or transportation network company registration may be found at www.mi.gov/tnc or by calling CSCL’s Licensing Division at (517) 241-9221.
