Michigan Carpool Parking Lot Program
The Michigan Carpool Parking Lot Program began as a pilot program in 1974 with 11 carpool parking lots. Today there are 243 MDOT-owned/partnered carpool lots and an additional 21 located at Meijer stores across Michigan - providing nearly 9,000 parking spaces. Approximately 3,900 vehicles park in these lots every day.

Daily parking at MDOT carpool lots is free. No permits are required.
These lots are not campgrounds, truck stops or rest areas. Violators may be asked to leave or escorted out.

Meijer-MDOT carpool lots
Several Meijer locations partner with MDOT to provide marked carpool parking areas. Trailblazing signs on nearby roads help drivers locate these lots.
Meijer is a privately owned and operated organization, and its parking policies may differ from MDOT-owned carpool lots. Contact the participating Meijer store for their rules, use policies and restrictions, especially if you plan to leave a vehicle for more than 24 hours.
