Welcome Centers

MDOT operates and maintains 14 Welcome Centers along Michigan's major freeways and roads to provide Pure Michigan travel and tourism information.

Welcome Center staff are knowledgeable members of the tourism industry who assist more than 5 million travelers annually. MDOT travel counselors work with the state's tourism industry to promote destinations, attractions, and activities in Michigan.

In addition to providing over 2,000 free travel brochures and visitor guides, Michigan Welcome Centers offer a variety of amenities such as walking paths, geocaches, dog exercise areas, picnic tables, grills, drinking fountains, and play areas for children.

The abundance of free informative travel brochures and visitor guides are provided through partnerships with Michigan Convention and Visitor Bureaus and Michigan tourism-based businesses. These partnerships are made possible through cooperation with Travel Michigan, Michigan’s official agency for the promotion of tourism, and MDOT.

Partnerships & Literature Displays

Local groups and organizations interested in supporting the welcome centers should contact their local welcome center to discuss partnership opportunities. Opportunities vary at each location but can include areas such as interpretive displays, special events, plantings in landscape, and flower beds. Michigan tourism-related businesses may distribute (upon receiving approval) travel-related brochures at all 14 welcome centers around the state.
