Project Support

The Project Support Unit provides acquisition support, condemnation, demolition, program management and relocation services. The unit is also responsible for the Real Estate Development Program.

Acquisition Support
The Program Services Unit provides administrative support and technical expertise to MDOT region offices involving the acquisition of real property rights for transportation projects. The unit also provides real estate acquisition services for the Environmental Section for wetland acquisitions and administrative support and technical expertise to MDOT Region Offices and the Attorney General Office involving property tax information for transportation projects.

Condemnation
The Project Support Unit coordinates condemnation (eminent domain) activities with the Attorney General Office and provides real estate technical expertise during the litigation process.

Demolition
The Project Support Unit provides statewide real estate demolition expertise for improvements acquired during the right-of-way acquisition process, and supports MDOT region and transportation service center staff by helping to develop and manage the demolition contract through completion.

Program Management

The Project Support Unit assists in the coordination of right-of-way project notifications, certifications, and early and advanced acquisitions. The unit prepares, coordinates, and disseminates real estate financial information and coordinates with MDOT's Design, Finance and Planning areas, as well as the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Real Estate Development Program
The Program Service Unit oversees the Real Estate Development Program which is designed to provide participants experience in multiple development and real estate program areas.

Relocation
The Project Support Unit provides relocation expertise, assistance and training on complex, detailed business and residential relocations and assists in the implementation of relocation policies, procedures and constitutional amendments and reviews/prepares all relocation appeals for the department.
