A.L. (Lew) Burridge
1882-1969
Known in his later years as "The Dean of highway Engineers," Burridge's engineering career spanned nearly six decades. He worked in many capacities in his professional lifetime as city engineer, as railroad and military engineer, as a contractor, as engineer for the State highway Department. Perhaps his greatest contribution to good roads was as a consulting engineer to cities, villages and county road commissions in northern Michigan. Construction and maintenance standards were upgraded and modern administration and management methods introduced wherever his influence touched.
