Mackinac Bridge Authority to meet on Mackinac Island July 21
July 19, 2022
ST. IGNACE, Mich. - The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) will meet July 21 to discuss pending Michigan legislation that affects the bridge, an update on the Annual Bridge Walk (including communications efforts to inform participants of walk options and travelers that the bridge will be closed during the event), and a closed session to discuss a security review of the bridge by Michigan State Police.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Mackinac Island City Hall, 7358 Market St., Mackinac Island. The meeting will be available to view online on YouTube.
The agenda includes discussion of three pending legislative bills:
- House Bill 5315, which would modify the definition of a “key facility” in the Michigan Penal Code to include the Mackinac Bridge and other large bridges and international crossings in the state, which would make it a four-year felony to trespass beyond physical barriers at those facilities;
- Senate Bill 1014, which would allow farm implements to cross the Mackinac Bridge under their own power, and
- Senate Bill 1078, which would allow farm implements access to limited access freeway (I-75) specifically to access the bridge.
