Work on US-31 bascule bridge in Charlevoix will require intermittent openings in January, February

GAYLORD, Mich. - Contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be replacing rivets with bolts on the US-31 bascule bridge in Charlevoix. This work is in preparation for a structural steel replacement project scheduled to begin in October 2023.

Traffic restrictions:
The majority of this work will have no impact on vehicle or pedestrian traffic on US-31, as the bridge will be in the closed/down position. However, this work will require intermittent openings of the bridge, stopping traffic for up to 10 minutes.
