M-129 rebuilding project starts May 22

NEWBERRY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $7.8 million to rebuild and resurface M-129 from north of 10 Mile Road to 18th Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa County. Work includes crushing and shaping, asphalt resurfacing, storm sewer, city watermain, and traffic signal improvements. Shoulders will also be widened north of Three Mile Road for nonmotorized traffic.

During the project, traffic will be maintained using lane closures with traffic regulators and a directional detour during some stages.

This project will increase safety for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway. Wider shoulders will increase safety for nonmotorized users. Traffic signal improvements at the Three Mile Road intersection will enhance safety.
