MDOT releases timelapse video showing railroad bridges being replaced in Jackson

LANSING, Mich. – Following the successful replacement of two-century-old railroad bridges over Jackson and Mechanic streets in Jackson, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has released timelapse videos showing the old bridges being removed and the new ones being installed. Owned by MDOT and used by Amtrak Wolverine Service trains and Norfolk Southern Railroad freight trains, these bridges were replaced Aug. 9-14 during a 120-hour rail shutdown period.

Jackson, Mechanic, Detroit, and Van Buren streets will remain closed through the end of the project, which is expected to be completed on Sept. 30. Meanwhile, Blackman Street reopened on Aug. 15.
