M-46 closure in Sandusky starts March 26

SAGINAW, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close M-46 to through-traffic from M-19 to Campbell Road in Sandusky. This work is being done as a part of a $26.4 million investment to rebuild and improve M-46 and M-19 in Sanilac County.
Work includes replacing the M-46 bridge over the Black River, rebuilding M-46 in the city of Sandusky, replacing storm sewer, upgrading traffic signals, replacing curbs, upgrading sidewalks, safety improvements, new bridge approaches, and guardrail work.

Traffic restrictions:
Currently, eastbound traffic is detoured with westbound traffic maintained on M-46 in Sandusky. Starting on March 26, both directions of M-46 will be closed and detoured via M-19 and Campbell Road south to Miller Road and back to M-46. This closure is being implemented as the first stage of this project in coordination with the City of Sandusky's watermain improvements. This stage is expected to be completed in July.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 375 jobs.
Safety benefit:
This work will rebuild the aging roadways, supporting commuter and commercial traffic.
