Culvert replacement project starts April 8 in Gladwin, Midland counties

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $6.1 million to replace and improve 76 miles of culverts along multiple roadways in Gladwin County and a portion of Midland County. In additional to replacing culverts, this project will include work on culvert lining, riprap, slope stabilization, ditch cleanouts, culvert cleanouts, scour countermeasures, guardrail installations, and pavement markings.
Work will be done on in Midland County on M-61 from west of Bard Road to west of the Gladwin/Bay County line and M-20 from west of 11 Mile Road to west of 9 Mile Road, and in Gladwin County on M-18 from Coolidge Road to east of Shearer Road and M-30 from west of Stillwagon Road to north of Twin Lake Road.

Traffic restrictions:
Traffic will be maintained using traffic regulators at most locations. Traffic will also be maintained with lane shifts or temporary traffic signals in select areas.
Work will begin on M-20 in Midland County before crews proceed on to M-18 and the roadways in Gladwin County.
Job numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this $6.1 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 87 jobs.
Safety benefit:
Repairing and replacing these culverts will ensure the integrity of M-61, M-30, M-20, and M-18.
