Unemployment Update #2
August 11, 2026
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) is transitioning to a new unemployment tax and benefits system called MiUI, which will replace the current Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM). MiUI Tax functions went live in February 2026, and Benefits Services functions are scheduled to be available later this year.
In this issue of the MiUI Unemployment Update, we are sharing the scheduled launch date for MiUI for all users.
MiUI Scheduled to Launch Nov. 9
UIA is excited to share that the Go Live date for MiUI Release 2 (Benefits) is scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2026. The launch of MiUI will directly affect all users and is a significant step forward in the modernization of the agency and the unemployment experience for workers. Arriving at this point is the culmination of several years of dedication and persistence to get the system ready for Michigan's residents.
MiUI is a new, modern web service designed to make applying for unemployment benefits easier and faster. When the system goes live on November 9, claimants will be able to file claims, complete weekly certifications, record three job search activities each week, check payment status, and manage other essential tasks all from a computer or mobile device.
What you need to know
- Workers will be able to continue accessing their accounts and information in MiWAM until just before MiUI launches on November 9.
- There will be a Downtime Period for a few days before MiUI is live to allow for moving account information from the old MiWAM system to MiUI. During the Downtime Period, MiWAM and unemployment services will be unavailable for everyone. More information about the Downtime Period will be shared in the future.
- After Go Live, anyone receiving benefits will no longer be able to use MiWAM. All account functions needed for receiving benefits will be performed in the new MiUI system.
Additional information about the Benefits launch will be shared on the UIA website, MiUI University, and through UIA newsletters such as this one, and in other communications.
