MDOT also is dedicated to training, mentoring, and creating awareness of transportation career opportunities for young people through programs such as the Youth Development and Mentoring Program (YDMP), the Student Internship Program (formerly MDOT Co-op Program), and the Transportation and Civil Engineering Program (TRAC).

Training and Development Programs
- Michigan TRAC Program TRAC is a hands-on education program designed for use in science, math and social science classes. By engaging students in solving real-world problems, TRAC connects middle/high school kids to the work world of transportation and inspires them to consider careers in transportation and civil engineering.
- TRAC Internship Program
- Michigan YDMP MDOT's Youth Development and Mentoring Program (YDMP), in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), is a program that helps prepare a diverse workforce for the future by providing participants with opportunities to pursue higher education, personal growth, and transportation careers.
