GLC Railroad over Muskegon River (CMGC)
Project information
Scope
Total structure replacement for railroad bridge (B02-18201.10) located along the state-owned, GLC-operated, rail over the Muskegon River in the unincorporated Village of Temple, Redding Township, Clare County, Michigan. The bridge is a single-track open timber deck with two spans, the longest span is approximately 135’. To improve the open waterway, the new structure will be required to span an additional 40’. Access to the bridge site is challenging and off-site staging area(s) may be required. This rail corridor is a low-density freight line, but no alternative routing/detouring is available to service rail freight customers between Cadillac and Traverse City/Petoskey, Michigan. Rail traffic is to be maintained at all times except for scheduled rail service outages for construction, which will be coordinated with the railroad. Multiple scheduled rail service outages may be permitted. A significant amount of the construction activities will be required to be performed around and underneath the existing bridge under active rail traffic.
