Prescribed Fires

Prescribed fire is a well established, ecologically based resource management tool used to combat invasive species, restore habitat (plant and animal), and reduce vegetative fuel loading.

Government agencies and private land managers use prescribed fire to efficiently meet their stewardship goals. Burn Managers include the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, US Forest Service. National Park Service, Nature Conservancy, Michigan Nature Association, local parks departments, Pheasants Forever and agricultural producers, etc.

Applicants must submit an individual permit application package including a Burn Plan through the Construction Permit System (CPS). Applicants must obtain written permission from the underlying fee owner, if the activity is in Easement Right-of-Way.
