Neighborhood meeting to discuss removal of Brooklyn Street pedestrian bridge over I-94
MDOT is hosting a neighborhood meeting to discuss the removal of the Brooklyn Street pedestrian bridge over I-94. At this meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the project team to learn more about the purpose and timing, why the structure will not be replaced, how traffic will be detoured during demolition and proposed improvements for pedestrian mobility by Trumbull Crossing Apartments. The overpass is expected to be removed in spring 2026.
Accessibility:
Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@michigan.gov preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible.
Project background:
The Brooklyn Street pedestrian overpass above I-94 has been closed since 2022 due to structural deterioration and is no longer safe. The overpass, connecting Trumbull Crossing Apartments and Wayne State University, will not be replaced since its location conflicts with future plans for modernizing the I-94/M-10 (Lodge Freeway) interchange.
