Next stage of M-46, M-19 improvement project in Sandusky begins Sept. 26

Work on this investment includes rebuilding M-46 in the city of Sandusky, replacing storm sewer, upgrading traffic signals, replacing curbs, upgrading sidewalks, and safety improvements, as well as improving M-19 in the city of Sandusky. In 2025, work will begin on resurfacing M-46 from the Sandusky east city limit to the Carsonville west village limit and replacing the M-46 bridge over the Black River.

Traffic restrictions:
Starting Thursday, M-46 will reopen to through-traffic between Maple Valley Street and Delaware Street. When M-46 reopens, the approaches to the Maple Valley Street/Dawson Street intersection at M-46 will close for rebuilding. M-46 through-traffic will be maintained via temporary traffic signals for the duration of the intersection work.
Dawson Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, N. Elk Street and Argyle Street. Maple Valley Street traffic will be detoured via M-46, M-19 and Speaker Street.
As work continues along M-19, northbound M-19 traffic is detoured via Miller Road, Campbell Road and M-46. Southbound traffic will remain on M-19.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 375 jobs.

This work will rebuild the aging roadways, supporting commuter and commercial traffic.
