Background:
MDOT manages toll operations for eastbound traffic at the BWB, connecting Port Huron, Michigan, to Point Edward/Sarnia, Ontario. MDOT last increased toll rates for eastbound traffic in January 2010, when the rate was increased from $1.50 per vehicle to $3. The rates listed below have been in place for 14 years, with no additional increases to support maintenance and construction on the structure, despite the rapid increase in costs to maintain the bridge.

Vehicle

United States currency

Cars $3
Each extra axle $3
Trucks and buses $3.25 per axle
EDGE Pass $0.50 discount per crossing

MDOT will be increasing toll rates Dec. 1, 2024, and is asking the public and regular bridge users to share their preferred increase method. MDOT will either institute one larger increase beginning Dec. 1, or phase in the increases between Dec. 1, 2024, and Dec. 1, 2025. Despite the projected toll increases, toll rates for the MDOT BWB will remain one of the lowest for crossings in Michigan.

Please visit the public survey to submit your preferred increase method, including additional public comments, and join us on Tuesday, Nov. 12, for background and discussion of the proposed rate increases.
