HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be conducting electrical work on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge between Houghton and Hancock next week, requiring bridge lifts.
Various test lifts will be performed at night (10 p.m. - 6 a.m.) Monday, Dec. 16, through the morning of Thursday, Dec. 19.
The lifts are planned to last 15 to 20 minutes each. Between lifts, traffic will be allowed to clear. Resulting closures will affect vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. This schedule is weather-dependent and may be adjusted.
This work will help ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the bridge.
