MDOT director appointed to ITS America board

LANSING, Mich. - Today, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) announced State Transportation Director Bradley C. Wieferich has been appointed to the ITS America Board of Directors effective January 2026, a testament to Director Wieferich’s commitment to safety and innovation in transportation and infrastructure.

In this role, Wieferich will work alongside other board directors to align safety and innovation, improving mobility and transportation systems for all road users. Michigan is already aligned as a leader in innovative transportation, including piloting connected and autonomous vehicle technology on public roads.

In addition to his role with ITS America and MDOT leadership, Wieferich serves on the Board of Directors for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and is the current president of the Mid America Association of State Transportation Officials (MAASTO). He also represents the department on Michigan’s Council on Future Mobility and Electrification, as well as the Mackinac Bridge Authority.

Wieferich is a graduate of Michigan State University (1992) and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
