KL Avenue rebuilding starts this week to complete US-131 bridge project

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Davis Construction Inc. are starting work this week to rebuild KL Avenue under US-131 in Oshtemo Township. This is the final year of the three-year, $24 million investment to replace the US-131 bridges over KL Avenue and the Amtrak railroad in Kalamazoo County.
Work this year will involve rebuilding KL Avenue under US-131, including building retaining walls and a shared-use path along KL Avenue.
Drivers can expect intermittent, short-duration single-lane closures on US-131 as crews complete median and slope restoration around the new bridges.
KL Avenue will remain closed and detoured throughout the project. Completion is expected in mid-June.
