Chip sealing on M-119 to begin May 11

GAYLORD, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $1.1 million to chip seal 20 miles of M-119 in Emmet County, from Ann Street in Harbor Springs to North State Road/Chippewa Drive in Cross Village. Two portions of the roadway damaged during recent flooding will not be included in this work.

Traffic restrictions:
Contractors will perform the work in four segments, starting from the north and working south, while detouring M-119 traffic:
- North State Road/Chippewa Drive to Robinson Road: Traffic will be detoured via North State Road and Robinson Road.
- Robinson Road to Stutsmanville Road: Traffic will be detoured via Robinson Road, West Townline Road/Church Road and Stutsmanville Road.
- Stutsmanville Road to Middle Road: Traffic will be detoured via Stutsmanville Road, State Street and Middle Road.
- Middle Road to Ann Street: Traffic will be detoured via Middle Road, East Lake Street and State Street.
Detours are expected from May 11 to June 27. Work and detours will be suspended for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
A second application of pavement markings will be done with mobile lane closures.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support nine jobs.
Safety benefit:
This project will help preserve the roadway condition and extend the service life of the pavement. This work includes new pavement markings.
