I-94 ramp closure starts June 22 for US-131 project in Kalamazoo
June 18, 2026
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Milbocker and Sons Inc.'s project to add an auxiliary lane to northbound US-131 between I-94 and Stadium Drive in Kalamazoo is moving into the next phase, requiring crews to close the westbound I-94 Exit 74B ramp to northbound US-131 for 60 days starting Monday, June 22. The posted detour will be at 9th Street Exit 72.
One lane of northbound US-131 will be open from Milham Avenue to Stadium Drive.
The northbound US-131 Exit 34B ramp to westbound I-94 will remain closed until the completion of this $13.4 million investment, which is expected in mid-September. The posted detour is to instead take eastbound I-94 Exit 34A, Oakland Drive Exit 75, and northbound Oakland Drive to access westbound I-94.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 113 jobs.
