US-41 lane closures for M-35 work begin Sept. 15
September 14, 2026
NEGAUNEE, Mich. - Motorists should expect lane closures on US-41/M-28 near the M-35 intersection east of Negaunee beginning Tuesday morning, Sept. 15. Contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be working on M-35, requiring the following traffic restrictions:
- Eastbound US-41 will have one lane closed near the M-35 intersection.
- The westbound US-41 direct turn onto southbound M-35 will be closed and traffic will be routed to the next crossover to the west to turn south onto M-35.
- One alternating lane of traffic will be open on M-35 under flag control.
These lane restrictions are expected to be in place until late October.
This work is part of the $6.2 million investment to rebuild more than 3 miles of M-35 in Marquette County between County Road 480 and US-41, including converting the M-35/County Road 492 intersection to a modern roundabout. Work includes crushing and shaping the existing pavement, new asphalt pavement, widening existing paved shoulders, realigning the M-35/Marquette County Road 492 intersection, grading and tree clearing at various locations for safety improvements.
