Bridge demolition requires closing eastbound I-96 in Detroit this weekend

DETROIT, Mich. – Removal of the Fullerton Street overpass requires demolition crews to close the eastbound I-96 local and express lanes from M-39 (Southfield Freeway) to Schaefer Highway. The closure begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 and ends at 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to northbound M-39, eastbound M-5 (Grand River Avenue), to the eastbound I-96 service drive, to enter I-96 at Livernois Avenue.
Prior to the freeway closure, crews will begin to close entrance ramps to eastbound I-96 at 7 p.m. The ramps scheduled to close include:
- US-24 (Telegraph Road)
- Outer Drive
- Evergreen Road
- Greenfield Road
- Northbound and southbound M-39
