MDOT, project partners hosting community open house Nov. 18 on 375 project in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to join the conversation about the future of Detroit's 375 corridor at the 14th community meeting for planned improvements. The open-house style meeting will highlight how community voices are helping shape the future of one of the city's most significant infrastructure and placemaking projects.

In partnership with community representatives, project stakeholders and local organizations, MDOT continues to explore innovative opportunities that celebrate Detroit's history, arts, culture and neighborhood identity while creating a vibrant, welcoming corridor that restores community connections and enhances quality of life.

The open-house will begin with a brief presentation, followed by an opportunity for attendees to explore displays featuring draft urban design concepts developed by the resident-led Local Advisory Committee (LAC). Exhibits will highlight street character design ideas, redevelopment opportunities for excess land, and models for public spaces and placemaking. Community members are encouraged to review proposed designs, ask questions, speak with the project team and provide feedback to help ensure the future vision of the 375 corridor continues to reflect community priorities.

Free on-site parking will be available.

Presentation and open house materials will be posted on the project website and available for viewing two weeks after the meeting.

Project information:
Over the past year, MDOT has worked closely with residents, youth participants, business owners and neighborhood stakeholders to gather ideas and feedback to help guide decisions for the corridor's future. Beginning in January 2026, the project team met monthly with the LAC to evaluate urban design strategies, identify ways to honor Black Bottom and Paradise Valley’s cultural and historical significance, and explore opportunities for open space, community gathering areas and other features that enhance the experience of both residents and visitors.

As part of this effort, the LAC reviewed the project framework, which is intended to help ensure future growth reflects community priorities. Topics explored included affordable housing, health and wellness initiatives, workforce development, support for small businesses and strategies to promote long-term community benefits.

The project team also conducted a market analysis of land that will become available through the transformation of I-375 from a freeway into a street-level boulevard. The study examined development potential and identified opportunities to balance market demand with community aspirations and local priorities.

The community meeting builds on this work by inviting residents and stakeholders to review the proposed design concepts and provide feedback. Together, these efforts are helping create a bold, community-driven vision for the future of the 375 corridor, one that honors Detroit's rich legacy, restores neighborhood connections, creates new opportunities for residents and businesses, and establishes a vibrant destination for generations to come.
