US-23 Rebuilding Project Tawas City and East Tawas - Iosco County

About this project

MDOT plans to rebuild 3.2 miles of US-23 in Iosco County from the Tawas River Bridge in Tawas City to Tawas Beach Road in East Tawas. The project, scheduled to be built in 2027, includes new pavement, curb and gutter, storm sewer, sidewalks, signs, pavement markings, and landscaping. Tawas City and East Tawas are providing funding for replacement of water main and sanitary sewer lines to be installed during the project in designated areas, as well as for sidewalks and potential streetscape elements, such as decorative lighting.

MDOT is also proposing to implement a lane conversion from the current four-lane configuration to three lanes (one lane in each direction for through-traffic and a center left-turn lane) from North Street to Tawas Beach Road.
