Crossing Emergencies

To report a crossing emergency, call local law enforcement, as well as the railroad's emergency contact number listed on the blue emergency sign. Be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification.

To report general rail crossing issues, call the railroad using the phone number listed on the blue emergency sign. Be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification. Report crossing safety concerns, including warning-device malfunctions, poor crossing-surface conditions and sight-distance concerns to MDOT's Rail Safety Section.

Blocked Crossings

To report blocked crossings, call the railroad using the phone number listed on the blue emergency sign. Be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification. Blocked crossings can also be reported online to the Federal Railroad Administration's Blocked Crossing Incident Reporter.
