Crossing emergencies
To report a crossing emergency, call local law enforcement, as well as the railroad's emergency contact number listed on the blue emergency sign. Be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification.
General crossing issues
To report warning device malfunctions, call the railroad using the phone number listed on the blue emergency sign. To report poor crossing surface conditions and sight-distance concerns, please contact MDOT’s Rail Safety Section. In all cases, be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification.

To report blocked crossings, call the railroad using the phone number listed on the blue emergency sign. Be prepared to provide the USDOT number listed on the sign for crossing location identification. Blocked crossings can also be reported online to the Federal Railroad Administration's Blocked Crossing Incident Reporter.
