Transportation commissions, councils, committees, authorities and partnerships

The role of commissions and councils is to provide a public forum for policy development and implementation, as well as advise state agencies on initiatives to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness and innovations. Partnerships ensure research, technology, and education programs are coordinated with federal, state and local transportation agencies and organizations.

  • State Transportation Commission

    State Transportation Commission (STC) is the policy-making body for all state transportation programs. It is comprised of six members appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the State Senate.

  • Michigan Aeronautics Commission

    Michigan Aeronautics Commission (MAC) is responsible for the general supervision of all aeronautics within the state. It is empowered by state law to make rules and regulations governing all airports, flight schools, and other aeronautical activities.

  • FHWA Partnership

    MDOT partners with the Federal Highway Highway Administration (FHWA) and together work toward innovating our transportation system through a State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC), the Every Day Counts Initiative (EDC), and the Accelerated Innovation Deployment (AID) Demonstration program.

  • Mackinac Bridge Authority

    Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) is committed to preserving and maintaining Michigan's single largest asset and one of the world's leading suspension bridges, and providing safe, pleasurable and expedient passage over the Straits of Mackinac.

  • Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority

    The Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority is responsible for overseeing construction and operation of a tunnel in bedrock beneath the waters of the Straits of Mackinac.

  • Sault Ste Marie Bridge Authority

    The Sault Ste. Marie Bridge Authority and the International Bridge Administration (IBA) are committed to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods across the International Bridge between Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

  • Michigan Council on Future Mobility

    The Michigan Council on Future Mobility will provide the governor and legislature recommendations regarding changes to state policy to ensure Michigan continues to be the world leader in automated, driverless, and connected vehicle technology.

  • Transportation Asset Management Council

    Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC) is a resource for independent, objective data on the condition of Michigan's roads and bridges and a resource for implementing the concepts of asset management.

  • Engineering Operations Committee

    Engineering Operations Committee (EOC) is the principal technical policy making body in the department on engineering, research, and related matters.
