The MDOT Office of Aeronautics is dedicated to partnering with sponsors to provide a balanced, safe system of airports which enhance air transportation and the commerce of the state by implementing the Michigan Airport Systems Plan, including the preservation of the existing system and expansion to meet aviation demands.

The Project Management team provides services such as engineering support, record retention, and grant administration for airports on behalf of or in conjunction with the FAA. The guidance for grant administration is provided via federal and state law, the Airport Infrastructure Improvement Handbook and relevant Advisory Circulars from the FAA.

The broader Airport Development team at MDOT-Office of Aeronautics assists airports with airport master planning, environmental review, airspace review, tall structures permitting, zoning assistance and real estate project management, as well as oversight and assistance with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) at Michigan Airports.
