Public meeting to discuss Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge replacement project
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - MDOT is hosting a public meeting next week regarding the project to replace the Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge east of US-131. The project is currently underway with the bridge over US-131 scheduled to close April 6. This meeting will provide information and updates on project details, traffic maintenance and scheduling. The public is invited to stop by any time during the meeting to learn more about the project and provide comments.

Attendees who require mobility, visual, hearing, written, or other assistance for effective participation should contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov, preferably at least five business days prior to the scheduled meeting. Forms are located on the Title VI webpage. Requests made after this timeframe will be evaluated and honored to the extent possible.
Project information:
Prep work and utility relocation are currently underway to replace the east section of the Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge from the northbound US-131 ramps east to the end of the bridge. This bridge, formerly and commemoratively known as Franklin Street, was originally built in the 1920s. Bridge demolition is scheduled for April 11.
