Lakeshore Boulevard in Marquette to be closed at US-41/M-28 Wednesday and Thursday for utility work

MARQUETTE, Mich. Work on the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) rebuilding project on US-41/M-28 from the Front Street roundabout to Furnace Street in Marquette will require the temporary closure of Lakeshore Boulevard.

Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed at the US-41/M-28 intersection beginning Wednesday morning, July 6, through Thursday evening, July 7, for storm sewer work. This schedule is tentative and may be adjusted.

The intersection will be closed, but businesses and residences on S. Lakeshore Boulevard will be accessible via a signed detour on Front Street and Baraga Avenue.

The work is part of MDOT’s $3.7 million investment to rebuild 0.6 miles of highway. The project includes asphalt rebuilding; cold milling and asphalt resurfacing of the roundabout; watermain, storm sewer and drainage repairs and improvements; traffic signal work; signs; and pavement markings.

Work started May 16 and is expected to be completed on Oct. 16.
