KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Railroads Association, Operation Lifesaver Inc., Canadian National (CN) Railroad, Amtrak, Conrail, CSX Transportation, and some short line railroads will kick off national Rail Safety Week to promote safety around the railroad tracks with speeches and informational displays. It happens every three hours in the United States: a person or vehicle is struck by a train. When this tragedy occurs, lives are changed forever. To raise awareness of the dangers of being on or around railroad tracks, Rail Safety Week is happening this year from Sept. 19 to 23.
This kick-off event is being spearheaded by Operation Lifesaver, Inc. in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation and other safety organizations.
