Project information:
MDOT plans to convert a section of US-12 in Union from east of M-217 to Mason Street from four lanes to three lanes. With a short four-lane section between two long stretches of two-lane roadway on US-12, excessive speeding has been recorded in this section. The road diet is expected to reduce the speed differential and eliminate high-speed passing maneuvers, improving overall safety. Porter Township has requested the conversion and already has passed a resolution to request and support the project.

Work is anticipated to take place in May 2023.
