Capital Avenue bridge work over I-94 in Battle Creek starts July 7

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be demolishing and rebuilding the Capital Avenue bridge over I-94 in Battle Creek starting 7 p.m. Friday, July 7. The demolition is expected to be completed by noon Sunday, July 9, weather pending. During the demolition, I-94 will be closed in both directions and detoured on the Capital Avenue ramps. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes during demolition.
Rebuilding the bridge will start Monday, July 10, and is expected to be completed Saturday, Sept. 23. There will be posted detours for Capital Avenue. Northbound traffic will be detoured on eastbound Beckley Road, northbound M-66, and westbound I-94. Southbound traffic will be detoured on westbound Knapp Drive, northbound Minges Road, westbound Watkins Road, southbound Helmer Road, and eastbound I-94.
A pedestrian detour will be posted on Beckley Road, Riverside Drive, and Minges Road. A shuttle service is available, and Battle Creek Transit has service changes during the work. For more information, visit the City of Battle Creek website.
This work is part of MDOT’s three-year, $160 million project to repave 10 miles of I-94 between Helmer Road and 17 1/2 Mile Road, rebuild nine bridges, and repair six others.
