Concrete repairs, detour start July 16 for Chums Corner intersection
July 07, 2023
GAYLORD, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will make full-depth concrete repairs and seal joints at the US-31/M-37/Beitner Road (Chums Corner) intersection in Grand Traverse County. MDOT previously upgraded the traffic signals at the intersection and added new pedestrian crossing signals and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant sidewalk ramps.
County:
Grand Traverse
Highways:
US-31, M-37
Closest city:
Traverse City
Start date:
Sunday, July 16, 2023
Estimated end date:
Friday, July 28, 2023
Traffic restrictions:
To expedite this project, and to allow cure time for new concrete, MDOT is working with the Grand Traverse County Road Commission to detour northbound and southbound US-31 traffic on Rennie School Road and East Silver Lake Road, and Beitner Road traffic on Williams Road and Rennie School Road. Northbound and southbound M-37 traffic will continue to use the Chums Corner intersection but will not be permitted to make turns.
In preparation for the detour, MDOT has added left-turn phases at the US-31/Rennie School Road traffic signal. The left-turn signals for US-31 traffic will remain following construction.
Access to all businesses and residences in the area will be maintained.
Safety benefit:
This work will improve the driving surface of the road and extend the life of the roadway.
