NEWBERRY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $4.2 million to resurface about 19 miles of M-123 from Luce County Road 500 to Paradise, in Luce and Chippewa counties. Work includes milling and resurfacing, surface sealing, crack sealing, culvert replacement, signing, aggregate shoulders, and pavement markings. This project includes a three-year pavement performance warranty and a three-year materials and workmanship pavement warranty.
"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."

Traffic restrictions:
The initial stage of the project, through August 28, includes culvert replacements. During this stage, motorists should expect one lane of alternating traffic using portable traffic signals. The speed limit during the use of signals is 25 mph. Remaining work will be completed using traffic regulators and the work zone speed will be set at 45 mph. During the project, M-123 will be fully open to traffic by the end of the day on Fridays.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 40 jobs.
