Sault Ste. Marie Rest Area on northbound I-75 in Chippewa County to be closed for paving July 9-12

NEWBERRY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Sault Ste. Marie Rest Area on northbound I-75 in Chippewa County will be closed for repaving starting Tuesday, July 9. Work is expected to be completed and the rest area reopened by Friday, July 12. This work is weather dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.

The Sault Ste. Marie Welcome Center, located 5 miles north, will remain open during this work.

This paving work is part of the $3.5 million investment to resurface nearly 5 miles of I-75 from M-28 north to 3 Mile Road in Chippewa County. The work includes single-course asphalt overlay, joint repairs, guardrail repairs, aggregate shoulders, and pavement markings. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 42 jobs.
