PORT HURON, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is performing prep work ahead of the upcoming Component 2 of the Blue Water Bridge plaza expansion project in Port Huron.
Starting Monday, May 4, crews will begin removing trees south of the Blue Water Bridge plaza and west of Pine Grove Avenue to prepare the area for work on Component 2. Trees will be replanted in the future to replace those removed for this project.
No traffic impacts are expected during this work.
Work on Component 2 is anticipated to begin in August. This approximately $300 million investment will primarily focus on reconfiguring the southern portion of the plaza. Work will include relocating the tolling operation facilities, building an inspection facility for US Customs and Border Protection, relocating Duty Free Americas and relocating the local access ramp to the west side of the plaza.
Intermittent lane closures will continue to be on Pine Grove, 10th Avenue, the Pine Grove Connector and on westbound I-69/I-94 Business Loop through July as crews complete Component 1 final items, including noise wall and sidewalk work.
