At the in-person open house between 30–40 people attended and 25 people indicated their preferred design using stickers.

Segment 2 preferences

  • 23 votes: Alternative B - Single bus-lane repurposing 
  • 4 votes: Alternative D - Single-lane reduction and bike lane
  • 1 vote: Alternative C: Single-lane reduction

    • 23 votes: Alternative B2 - Single bus-lane reduction

    30‑day comment period results

    • More than 230 people submitted feedback.
    • Segment 2: 89% were in‑favor or somewhat in‑favor of the bus‑lane option.
    • Segment 3: 91% were in‑favor or somewhat in‑favor of the dual bus‑lanes option.
    • Only 6% selected the replace‑in‑kind option for Segments 2 and 3.

    MDOT direction (as of July 2026)

    MDOT is pursuing the roadway design centered on the bus-lane alternatives. The department recognizes Washtenaw Avenue as a key commuter route serving the city, the medical center and the University of Michigan. While project scope and funding do not support roadway widening or property acquisition, the design will include features to support traffic flow, such as: a continuous two‑way left‑turn lane between South University Avenue and Tuomy Road.

    Incorporating a transit-oriented alternative along Washtenaw Avenue and Huron Street is expected to maximize overall person‑throughput for the roadway.
