About this project
MDOT is replacing the I-96 bridges over the Grand River and Billwood Highway, including preventive maintenance on the I-96 bridges over both M-99 and Washington Avenue.
Road closures during this type of work is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists.

Traffic impacts
- I-96 will have two lanes open in each direction for the majority of the project.
- Billwood Highway will be closed at I-96 and detoured.
- M-99 will have one lane open in each direction.
- Northbound Washington Avenue will be closed and detoured.

The I-96 work is part of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.
