US-31/3 Mile Improvements - Traverse City
About this project
MDOT plans to make improvements to the US-31/3 Mile intersection in East Bay Township. This project will include sidewalk and traffic signal improvements, a second westbound left-turn lane, and alignment of the Traverse City State Park Beach driveway with the northbound approach of the intersection. The project also includes permanent property transfer to accommodate the second left-turn lane and signal equipment on the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Traverse City State Park Beach recreational property north of the intersection.
Realignment of the access drive with the 3 Mile Road intersection will improve traffic flow entering and exiting the beach day-use area parking lot, which was identified as one of the 10-year action goals and was the number one improvement or change identified at the stakeholder meeting during the General Management Plan planning process. The DNR Parks and Recreation Division approved the Traverse City State Park general management plan in September 2021 to help guide future park development.
