Westbound I-69 traffic shift and ramp closures in St. Clair County start May 12

SAGINAW, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will shift westbound I-69 traffic to the eastbound side from Taylor Road to M-19 in St. Clair County beginning Friday, May 12. This work is part of a $27 million investment to resurface 9.6 miles of westbound I-69. Work includes culvert replacements, concrete curb and gutter, sewer and drainage improvements, and new signs and pavement markings.

Traffic restrictions:
Following this traffic shift, both directions of I-69 will be maintained on the eastbound side. Westbound I-69 entrance ramps at Wales Center Road and Taylor Road will be closed and detoured via Old M-21 (Lapeer Road) and M-19. The westbound I-69 exit ramp to Wales Center Road will also be closed and detoured via Wadhmas Road and Old M-21 (Lapeer Road), bringing traffic back to Wales Center Road.
Crews expect to shift westbound I-69 traffic back to the westbound side in October while remaining work items are finished.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 326 jobs.

This work will improve the safety and operations of the roadway while significantly extending the life of the pavement.
