US-31 lane closures start Wednesday in Ferrysburg for culvert replacement

MUSKEGON, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing $2.8 million to replace a culvert under US-31 for a tributary leading to Smith’s Bayou, just south of Van Wagoner Road.

Traffic restrictions:
Lane closures will be in effect throughout the project. Southbound US-31 is scheduled to be closed between Van Wagoner Street and Ridge Avenue Sept. 13-29 while northbound US-31 is scheduled to be closed Sept. 16-29.
Through-traffic will be directed to I-96, M-231 and M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive). Local traffic will exit at Van Wagoner Street and take 174th Avenue, 3rd Street, and Pine Street back to US-31.
Jobs numbers:
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support about 34 jobs.
Safety benefit:
This project will replace the original culvert from 1958 and extend the service life of the roadway.
