Traffic shift at US-41/M-28 roundabout project in Ishpeming begins Sept. 16
September 12, 2024
ISHPEMING, Mich. - The traffic configuration at the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) roundabout project at the intersection of US-41/M-28 and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming, Marquette County, will be changing beginning Monday, Sept. 16. Traffic will be shifted to one lane in each direction on the south side of the highway, with no turns allowed at North or South Lakeshore Drive. Detours will remain in place. This stage is expected to last about three weeks.
Motorists should slow down and drive with caution in the work zone and expect delays during these traffic shifts.
MDOT is investing about $6.4 million to build a roundabout at this busy intersection. Work includes asphalt rebuilding, drainage, guardrail, retaining walls, lighting, signs, pavement markings, bridge widening with steel beams, deck replacement, bridge barrier construction, and approaches. This project began last fall and is expected to be completed in late October.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 91 jobs.
This project is expected to improve safety and traffic flow in this area. Learn more about the benefits of roundabouts on the MDOT website.
