M-58 (State Street) intersections closing for water main work Aug. 19 - 20 in Saginaw

SAGINAW, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the eastbound M-58 (State Street)/Warwick Street and M-58 (State Street)/Mackinaw Street intersections for water main work.

The Warwick Street intersection will be closed starting Tuesday, Aug. 19, through Wednesday, Aug. 20. The Mackinaw Street intersection will be closed for only one day on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Northbound and southbound traffic will temporarily not be able to cross M-58 (State Street) through these intersections during the water main work.

Eastbound M-58 (State Street) is currently closed and detoured onto westbound M-58 (Davenport Avenue). Westbound M-58 was converted into a two-way road with a temporary center turn lane for the duration of this project.

This work is part of a project to rebuild 1.1 miles of eastbound M-58 (State Street) from Avalon Avenue to M-84 (Bay Street) in Saginaw. Work includes hot-mix asphalt rebuilding; new concrete curb, gutter and sidewalks; signal upgrades; signs; landscaping and pavement markings. MDOT is also coordinating with the City of Saginaw to make upgrades to city sewers and water mains.

"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."

Based on economic modeling, this $13 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 124 jobs.
