KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and contractor Davis Construction, Inc., are preparing to shift traffic onto the new US-131 bridges over KL Avenue and the Amtrak rail in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County. The three-year, $24 million project is expected to be completed in June 2026, with work this year wrapping up in late November.

There will be single-lane closures on southbound US-131 from 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, through 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, as crews begin shifting southbound traffic onto the new lanes and bridge. Work then will begin to remove the temporary lanes and bridge.

KL Avenue will remain closed throughout the winter and is expected to reopen in late summer 2026. Work next year on KL Avenue will include rebuilding the road, sanitary sewer, culverts and a nonmotorized path.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 341 jobs.
