Open house July 23 to discuss 2027-2028 US-31 rebuilding project in Manistee

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has scheduled an open house public meeting to discuss 2027-2028 plans to rebuild a 4.8-mile section of US-31 from Stronach Road in Filer Township, continuing north through the city of Manistee, and ending just north of M-55 in Manistee Township, Manistee County.

Project information:
The proposed work, tentatively planned for 2027 and 2028, will include removing and replacing the existing pavement; rebuilding the storm drainage system, including curb and gutter, storm sewer and outlets; replacing existing sidewalks; and addressing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades, as required. MDOT is also proposing to implement a lane conversion from the current four- and five-lane configuration to three lanes (one lane in each direction for through-traffic and a center left-turn lane) from 12th Street to Lakeshore Road.
