Improvements to M-13/M-84 (Lafayette Street) bridge detour routes start Sept. 3
August 29, 2024
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin improving the detour routes of Henry and Wenona streets in Bay City ahead of the upcoming demolition and replacement of the Lafayette Street bridge. Work will include mill and fill, as well as sidewalk and ramp improvements that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This detour preparation is part of an approximately $112 million investment (including $73 million in grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) to demolish the aging structure and build a new bridge. The new bridge will be a safe and reliable crossing over the Saginaw River that will include a new 8-foot-wide shared-use path. Work on the bridge is expected to begin early this winter.
