Wenona Avenue improvements begin Oct. 2 ahead of Lafayette Street bridge replacement in Bay City
September 27, 2024
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin the next phase of detour route improvements ahead of the upcoming demolition and replacement of the M-13/M-84 (Lafayette Street) bridge. Starting Oct. 2, MDOT will begin work on improving Wenona Avenue between Salzburg Avenue and Henry Street in Bay City.
Work will include railroad crossing repairs, resurfacing, and sidewalk and ramp improvements that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
This detour preparation is part of an approximately $112 million investment (including $73 million in grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law) to demolish the aging structure and build a new bridge. The new bridge will be a safe and reliable crossing over the Saginaw River that will include a new 8-foot-wide shared-use path. Work on the bridge is expected to begin early this winter.
